An online course that doesn't only raise awareness of child verbal abuse, but also provides alternatives for a better communication.

Most people, when think about verbal abuse, tend to picture someone yelling and screaming. This is not always the case. Verbal abuse can be quiet, repetitive, and unintentional. The impacts are less obvious, and most time become ‘normal’ in the child’s perspective.

Being a new parent can be stressful as it isn’t always easy to get straight to the point. A simple phrase or certain reaction might turn into a quiet form of verbal abuse if used repetitively and without cautions.

WHY AN ONLINE COURSE?

Child verbal abuse is known, but there aren't enough extended discussions. Conscious Love" educates and provides alternatives that adults may learn and apply to their circumstances.

Every student also receives the Bonding Box, an extension from the online course. It consists of a set of flip cards with alternatives to phrases/sayings, facts about verbal abuse, and a parenting journal. Students are encouraged to apply what they've learned to real situations, and able to share the conversation with others in their communities.

CHALLENGES & APPROACHES

"How do we get the new parents and adults, our target audience, to paticipate in this? How to help parents get their good intention across? Raising Awareness doesn’t solve the issue but by changing the habit, it can help solve the problems." Our approaches are: to provide alternatives, to be supportive and not judging, and to turn action in habit.
